Should I Quit My Job?

Dear Nana Ama,

I’m a 21-year-old senior secondary school leaver and worker in one of the reputable public firms in the country.

This year, I bought a teacher training college form and I was invited for an interview early this month. However, there is nobody l can look up to to see me through the training.

Nana, the question is, should I quit the job and strive to train as a teacher in September or should I remain in the job? I have more interest in the school than the job and anytime I go to work I feel miserable and dejected.

The worst part of it all is that I am a brilliant boy and anytime my mates at the universities call to find out where I’m schooling, my misery is worsened. My friends express surprise at my plight. Please help me.

Since you will be catering for your needs all by yourself while you are furthering your education, you need to plan properly before you quit your job.

You will be receiving an allowance at the training college but you must figure out if you can survive on that. So, the first question to ask yourself is, Have I saved enough to see me through training college?

If you have not, try to find out if you can defer the admission to enable you to save up enough money. That way, you may not be cash strapped and fall into difficult times once you begin to further your education.
