Plastic waste is well known to have devastating effect on the environment: humans, wildlife and wildlife habitat.

Rufai Zakari, an environmental artist seeks to help solve the plastic waste menace in Ghana by using discarded bottles to create pieces of artwork.

Out of his many works with plastic waste, he has to his credit a flower mask made from plastic bottles to beautify homes while solving our environmental challenges.

The flower mask is a a type of flower vase made primarily from discarded plastic boltless in a face mask design, and could be use to decorate homes.

The inspiration behind the flower mask, according to Zakari, is to bring nature closer to people but in a creative way.

“It is very important that plants are closer to us because it’s good for human health,” Zakari explained.

He chose to use discarded plastic bottles for his work because plastics endangers human life and failure to deal with the menace may cost precious lives.

He further noted that, “it is important to recycle plastic for other purposes since its life span does not end with only one use.

For him, “protecting nature is always a priority. However, polluting the environment is the biggest crisis we don’t know.”

Zakari started working with discarded plastic bottles about three and half years ago from his studio in Nima, Accra.

So if you are thinking of transforming your home, you can get yourself these unique flower vases and save the environment at the same time.
