We all crave for glowing, flawless skin, but how many of us genuinely make an effort to take care of it? Your skin is what protects you from harmful elements in the environment, but what do you do that can protect your skin? Not all of us are blessed with naturally beautiful skin; some of us need to make an effort. It might be a lot of work, but good skin is not that easily achievable. Your skin needs the right nutrients and care to fight off damage. But your lifestyle or unhealthy eating habits may be affecting your skin in a bad way. You might not be able to see the damage right away, but it will gradually appear, and there will be no turning back. There are many ways to keep your skin healthy and glowing, but once it is damaged, it is almost impossible to heal it. Here are a few things that you should be aware of that can potentially damage your skin.

1. Excessive Smoking And Drinking
Well, you already know this one – anything that is an addiction can only cause harm to your body. These two vices can ruin your skin faster than any other thing. Sure, you don’t have to cut down on drinking completely, but manage your timing and limit yourself. Smoking is dangerous for your health and makes your skin look older than its age. The damage caused by these habits may not show up right away but will gradually diminish the quality of your skin and health. You can cut down gradually, and in no time, you will see an improvement.

2. Sun Exposure
Overexposure to the sun can cause severe damage to the skin. You may enjoy your time in the sun to get that nice rich tan. But, it can take a toll on your skin as the sun emits harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause sunburns. With time, the rays of the sun can lead to wrinkles, dark spots, and other problems that are irreversible. The enzymes in our body cannot repair skin damage unless proper care is taken. Don’t forget to dab on some sunscreen the next time before you step out of your house

3. Sleeping With Makeup On
It is completely understandable that we all are too exhausted on some days to even bother washing our faces before going to bed. But falling asleep with your makeup on is probably one of the worst things to wake up to next morning. It can lead to acne, clogged pores, and severe breakouts. In the long run, if you are doing this as a habit, it can lead to bacterial infections. And the residue on your pillowcase can even make you sick. Therefore, keep a few makeup wipes handy next to your bed so that you can make it a point to clean your face at night even if you forget to wash it.

4. Caffeine Rush
Coffee is one of our favorite beverages. Can you imagine getting up in the morning without a cup of coffee to help? It may give you an energy boost, but drinking too much coffee is also bad for your skin. Throughout the day, whenever you feel a bit drowsy, you turn to coffee, but little do you realize what it can do to your skin. Caffeine is a major culprit that causes dry skin and also magnifies wrinkles. It can age your skin faster than you can imagine. So, the next time you crave for coffee, look for alternatives to quench your thirst that can be beneficial to your health.

5. Picking At Your Face
Now, who likes to see a zit right in the middle of the face? I am sure nobody does. But the solution is not to pop your pimple. It may give a temporary satisfaction, but picking at the skin on your face will only push dirt and bacteria further into your pores. This, in turn, will give way to more and more breakouts. Now, we don’t want that, do we? To avoid pimples, always keep your face clean and drink plenty of water! This will clear out any harmful toxins from the body.

6. Lack Of Proper Rest
Your body needs enough rest for good health as well as clear skin. Lack of rest can cause baggy eyes, dark circles, aged skin, and a dull look on your face. The exhaustion on your face after a sleepless night is enough proof to make this a fact. It drains out the liveliness from your skin and makes it clear that you are sleep deprived. Getting enough sleep would make you look refreshed and will replenish the quality of the skin. So, make sure to get good sleep at night, preferably for 6-8 hours.

7. Bad Eating Habits
Are you a junk food addict? Well, you can’t be blamed, they are delicious and a quick fill. But that does not mean they are good for you. Your favorite platter of junk is a nightmare for your skin. Think about oily skin, clogged pores, breakouts – these are just a few damages they cause to your skin. What you eat has much to do with your skin. Cut down on unhealthy junk and add more nutritious food to your diet. A diet rich in vegetables and fruits is a great way to rejuvenate and pamper your skin. It rehydrates, refreshes, and rejuvenates it.

8. Chemical Products
We keep trying more and more products in an attempt to keep our skin healthy and young. More often than not, we often turn to chemical-based products. And when we don’t see results, we keep shifting from one product to another. This can be your skin’s worst nightmare. Testing too many products can cause unexpected reactions on your skin, which may lead to long-term damage. Also, make sure to check labels before trying a new product. Do not opt for heavy chemical compositions; instead, opt for organic or natural products as they are good for your skin.

9. Too Much Stress
As working independents, stress is a part of our everyday life. Sometimes, it’s just impossible to keep stress away. When it comes to your skin, stress can lead to dullness, wrinkles, stress lines, blemishes, and breakouts. It can cause irreversible damage to your skin. So, the next time you have something to worry about, remember your skin and try to find ways to calm yourself. Do something you enjoy to keep stress away, like yoga or meditation, or music. Just do anything in your power to avoid stress.

10. Lack Of Water
Now, I don’t need to tell you this one. You already know that water is the best cure for your skin. It rejuvenates it from within by clearing out harmful toxins from your body. Not drinking enough water can result in dryness, dehydration, and rough and dull skin. Therefore, always make sure to keep a bottle of water next to you and keep drinking water to keep your body and skin healthy and vibrant.

These are just a few of the many bad habits that can lead to unhealthy skin. Now that you know what can cause irreversible damage to your skin, be cautious and make sure to avoid anything that poses a threat to your skin and health. It is in your hands to take proper care to attain healthy and glowing skin. Go on and protect your skin from any external and internal harm, and you will love how it looks and feels.
