Touch Of Thoughts 10 Things You Should Do Before The Year Ends
DEC 14, 2015 LISTEN

Perhaps you’ve been too busy to notice, but the year is almost over. Yes, time flies and soon we’ll be ringing in a brand-new year. The end of the year is a natural time to reflect on goals and set resolutions. So in between shopping trips, holiday preparations and the rest of the daily grind, it’s time to take a breather and focus on some small things now that might make a big difference after year-end.

Although we usually start on our to-dos and New Year Resolutions in January, however the end of the year is actually a great time to wrap things up and start new tasks. There are also a number of things that should be done by the end of the year. You really should do these to start 2016 fresh.

Maybe you’ve been putting off these tasks, or maybe they haven’t occurred to you. But with the 16 days left in the year, you can take out time to take a breather and focus on some small things now that might make a big difference in the New year!

DO YOUR FINANCIAL REALITY CHECK: A financial checkup is always first on my end-of-the-year list and it really should be for any business owner. Knowing how you save and spend can be a valuable step to helping put your financial house in order. But in the daily grind, it’s easy to lose track of the big picture. To bring that back into focus, I ask myself…“Where is my money going?” Am I paying for a gym membership that I’m not using? Overpaying for my phone bills? The end of the year is a good time to review expenses and cut or renegotiate where possible!

GIVE YOURSELF ASSIGNMENTS: You can give yourself some assignments for the rest of the year. Think about the things you haven’t achieved so far and see if you can before the year runs out. For me I had planned at the beginning of the year i would like to visit some Charity homes and I have not been able to achieve the. Therefore my assignment before the year end is to make this visit! Think about a realistic assignment you can give yourself and strive to accomplish it before the year runs out.

DRAW UP YOUR BUSINESS STRATEGY: If you are an Entrepreneur, you should by now already have your Business Strategy for the New Year drawn up. If you have not, it is not too late to start! What are your projections for the New Year? Who will be your new target market? What is your turn over projections? How do you intend to achieve it? Would you hire or fire? Would you expand or contract your operations? You need to put pen to paper to draw up your Business Master Plan for 2016 before 2015 comes to an end.

DETERMINE YOUR NET WORTH: This worthwhile yearly exercise is easy to do. Simply add up what you own (house(s), car(s), savings, business interests, personal property, investments, etc.) and subtract what you owe (mortgage, loans, credit cards, etc.)…The result is your net worth! This information will help you track your progress year to year—and can be an incentive to save more or reduce debt.

THINK ABOUT YOUR NEW YEAR GOALS: We often push off thinking about our resolutions until January but try to start thinking of your resolutions now, so you don’t feel rushed in the start of 2016. Abi, who says you can’t get started on your 2016 resolutions now?

CHANGE IMPORTANT PASSWORDS: Make a point to update all your passwords for next year, especially those for bank, work emails and other sensitive accounts. You could use a notebook and pen to record your new passwords but a much better idea is using one of the numerous free password manager programs available. Most will generate and store strong passwords for you. Add an extra layer of protection by changing the most important passwords at least once a year. A good password has a mix of numbers, letters, and special characters.

MAKE A WILL: If you don’t have a plan for your demise, there’s no time like the present to start one. This can help prevent a lot of agony and misery for your loved ones who would leave behind in the case of any eventuality. And guess what? With the advancement in technology and all…you no longer need a Lawyer to make a simple Will. There is a simpledo-it-yourself software online that can help you prepare a Will in less than an hour. You can do this now and have a Lawyer check it later.

UPDATE BENEFICIARIES: The end of the year is a good time to review your beneficiaries and update them as needed. Did you get married? Divorced? Have kids? Have a falling out? Make sure you have the right people listed as the beneficiaries on your accounts such as Life insurance, Annuities, Bank accounts and Retirement accounts. Always update your documents at the year-end.

CLEAN UP AND TRASH CLUTTER: Get to cleaning for a fresh start to a new year. You definitely don’t want your clutter to carry on into 2016. Dust, vacuum, wash and scrub away so your place will be spick and span. You may also want to consider fumigating to kill insects, rats and rodents. This will put you in a better mind-set when it comes to starting new resolutions, because a clear space can represent a blank slate. When you’re done giving your place a cleaning makeover, take the items that you no longer want or need and sell, donate, use up, or trash them. They may range from items like old clothes to leftovers in your kitchen cupboard. Make way for 2016!

APPRECIATE SOMEONE: If anyone has really made your 2015 special and remarkable, take out time to specially appreciate that person. Pay him or her a visit and express your heartfelt gratitude…Get the person a heartwarming gift…Make that person feel really special! I have a couple of people who stood out in my 2015…they will hear from me soon!*wink*

Wise words from an ancient sage seem too obvious here: There is no new beginning without first an end. But too often we’re so anxious to get on to the new beginning that we fail to end the other beginning well…especially when the beginning is a new year! There are 16 days left in the year.

Let’s make them count!
