Touch Of Thoughts Do Something Before You Die; My Encounter With Okyeame Kwame
SEP 1, 2015 LISTEN

Last weekend, I had the privilege of meeting rap veteran Okyeame Kwame at Ghana's flagship brand event Rebrand2015 where he was also a speaker. I'm not a person given to entertainment especially music of that genre but I was quite fascinated by the story of the music icon.

I'm persuaded Okyeame Kwame has wisdom to share with anyone regardless of his or her sphere of influence. A number of things appealed to me about the rap doctor. Before I share the great lesson he left with me on that day, let me talk about the things that caught my eye about the affable musician.

I have always thought Kafui Dey is one of the few public figures who handles fame really well. Last Saturday, I added Okyeame to that list. He is warm, friendly and entertaining. If you had seen us chatting, you might have assumed we've known each other for many years. Even after his presentation, he chose to stay in the event to listen to other speakers and interact with participants afterwards.

Secondly, he handled his presentation really well. Besides those of us who do public speaking at a professional level, most leaders, business icons, musicians and other public figures have great stories to tell. But often they do a poor job at telling it. Their speeches tend to be dull, incoherent and unmoving. Not Okyeame. He actually spoke extempore. And it was great!

In my chat with him, something he said grabbed my attention. He said and I paraphrase "if God allowed His own son, Jesus Christ, to be killed at age 33 then He will not hesitate at allowing us to die no matter how young we are, if our time is up. So whatever you want to do, do it quickly. Whatever you want to achieve, do it now. Because when your time is up, He won't spare you".

My jaws dropped! I was fascinated that a rap artist was preaching to me and even more overwhelmed by the urgency of his message. You have no time to waste. You have made enough excuses. You have procrastinated enough. It's now time to live your dreams. There is no better time than now. You have to make your dreams happen because when it is your time to go, God will not spare you! Do something before you die!
