Miss T’ Poly 2012 launched With a call on the Girl-Child Education…...
Event's Organizer, Basket & Beyond (BB), has launched its maiden edition of the Miss T' Poly 2012 at Takoradi in the Western Region. This year's beauty pageant would take place on the 26th of May, 2012 at Akroma Plaza in Takoradi. Nine ladies were selected from the school to compete with each other.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive of BB, Mrs. Natalie Takyi-Appiah said Miss T' Poly Beauty Pageant was developed to bring about cultural exchange through the promotion of health, beauty and talent.
She said Miss T' Poly Beauty Pageant provides awareness to public issues such as breast cancer, girl-children education, culture and other public related issues. Mrs. Takyi-Appiah said Miss T' Poly beauty pageant would like to be widely recognized as the world standard for support of Girl- Child Education Awareness.
The project is intended to lay the foundations for the formal recognition of women's (students) support particularly for the child-girl education research and awareness campaign in Western Region and the Country as a whole.
This year's pageant is on the theme: “Beauty and brains, empowering the young Ghanaian ladies, promoting their voices in educational, social, cultural and economic development”.
The Chief of Asipon Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Bonna commended the event's organizers, she advised the ladies to be positive minded and have the “can-do-spirit”. She said there is a need to inspire the Girl-Child by devoting time, money and other resources for their moral upbringing. The girl-child she said is special, precious and unique and called on parents especially mothers to listen to their daughters and share their concerns.
The world she said has become a materialistic and some parents do not have much time for their female children and they are left alone without any parental guidance.
She called on Ghanaians to instill in their girls confidence, moral values to make them understand how precious and sacred their bodies are and not to allow their bodies to be misused for monetary gains. “Parents have a responsibility to protect the girl-child from any bad practices that may endanger their future” she said.
This year's criterion for selection was based on the following; eloquence, beauty (both inside and outside) intelligence, with more knowledge about the culture and history of Ghana. The nine contestants include Belinda, Debora, Genevieve, Miriam, Priscilla, Bless, Rabiatu, Sandra and Victoria. During the two weeks grooming period, the contestants would use their platform to campaign for peace in the December election under the theme, “Peace in December 2012”.
