What Is Life? Today We Are, Tomorrow We Are Gone

I. SON OF MAN, through heavenly favour it shall come to pass, but the Lord shall strengthen us. Beloved, let us pose in this sixth month; let us reflect on what life is. Today we are, tomorrow we are gone. Where are you going? James 4:14 puts it in straightforward terms, whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Is our life indeed a vapour? How long will it stay before it disappears? Brothers, every generation wrestles with the same ache: What is life? You are not the only person to ask that big question. We build careers, raise families, chase dreams, scroll through days… And when you have accomplished what is humanly possible, you still face the question: Is this all there is? Beloved, we are encouraged through scripture that even though life is brief, it is not meaningless. Life is fragile, but it is not hopeless. Life is a mist… But it is a mist breathed out by God.

II. DAUGHTER OF ZION, scripture makes it explicit that we do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is our life? We are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Today we are. Tomorrow we are gone. But in that space between, God has given us purpose, hope, and eternity. Let’s walk through three truths about life and the hope that anchors us in each. It is an acceptable fact that life is brief; therefore, we must live purposefully. We are not permanent residents here. The psalmist in Psalm 90:12 cries out, Lord! Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. My dear sisters, life’s shortness is not meant to paralyse us but to help us keep our focus at all times. A mist doesn’t waste time. It appears; it fulfils its purpose; it returns to the One who sent it. Life is a progressive truth. God hasn’t given any of us years to waste on what doesn’t matter. He has given us moments to love deeply, serve faithfully, forgive quickly, and speak truth boldly.

III. MY BELOVED SISTERS IN THE LORD, Ecclesiastes chapter 3 reminds us, to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck what is planted. Now that we are alive, it is our season to do what is right; let us not wait for “someday” to reconcile, to obey, to worship, or to give thanks – that someday may never come. Remember that even in our briefness, we are seen. Psalm 139:16 reminds us that our marker’s eyes saw our unformed body; all the days ordained for us were written in His book before one of them came to be. Even though our life is short, God is intentional about us. Let us not forget that it is our marker who plans our lives; we have no control over anything. James 4:13-15 also cautions us: 'Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city...' Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’

IV. MY DEAR BROTHERS IN THE LORD, let us remember always that life can shift in a moment through a phone call, a diagnosis, a door closing, promotion, demotion, natural disaster, marriage, childbirth, among other things. That fragility exposes our pride and invites our surrender. Proverbs 3:5-6 advises us, therefore, to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways we must submit to Him, and He will make our paths straight. When we release our grip on controlling tomorrow, we gain peace for today. Matthew 6:34 says, “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” God gives grace for today, not anxiety for tomorrow. Our lives may be fragile, but the One holding them is not. In 1 Peter 1:24-25 we are encouraged that “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field…" But the word of the Lord endures forever.” This is a DIVINE NEW DAY PROPHETIC WORD of encouragement sent forth through the authority and power of Christ Jesus and served to the brethren through God's Vessel, Francis Ameyibor. Yes, you are held by the Eternal. Life is not the end – therefore, live with eternal hope.

V. 2026 IS OUR YEAR AND SEASON TO BE LIFTED UP—Yes, today we are, and tomorrow we are gone…but not gone forever.

PRAYER: Today, I pray I join you through faith to lift whatever you are believing God for to Him now. Say it with me: “Lord, I trust that what You promised shall come to pass. Strengthen my faith while I wait. Prepare me for what’s coming. And let Your word be fulfilled in my life.” In Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
