What's The Sun

By Big Book of Knowlegde - Daily Graphic
The SunThe Sun

The sun is a star, an enormous globe of shining gas. At the centre, at a temperature of 15 million degrees centigrade, are nuclear reactors capable of releasing an enormous quantity of energy.

Only the tiniest, smallest part of this energy reaches Earth and this energy is essential to give life to our planet.

The sun is the centre of a system of planets of which Earth is a part. It is about 150 million kilometres away from us.

To have some idea of how large the sun is, imagine a huge container which could hold one million and a half planets as big as the Earth.
