As a freelancer, there are chances that you suffer some form of low back pain. You are not alone; it is a common issue among freelancers who work remotely on the computer and office workers.

There are two main causes of low back pain; a sedentary lifestyle and poor sitting positions.

The good news is there are simple ways to alleviate low back pain, which I shall discuss in this article.

Simple ways to alleviate low back pain are as follows;

  • Stretching: One of the causes of low back pain is inactivity, as mentioned earlier. Stretching and short walks within your work environment are recommended after every 30 minutes to make the body active after being at rest for a while; these will help prevent low back pain.
  • Exercise: Exercise is an increased burst of stretching. It involves setting aside time from your routine to get your muscles back into action. This might involve a long walk, jogging, or visiting the gym.
  • Ergonomically fit office chair and desk: Use an appropriate swivel chair that enhances your sitting posture and ensure placing your keyboard on a desk of comfortable height. This will prevent you from an awkward sitting position.
  • Diet: What we eat affects a good part of our health. Foods with anti-inflammatory properties have been reported to help alleviate back pains. Foods rich in antioxidants are said to have anti-inflammatory properties. Anti-inflammatory foods to supplement your diet include fruits, spices (Ginger, Tumeric, and Garlic), legumes, and vegetables.
