"Boldly report domestic violence" - Okudzeto tells women

Boldly report domestic violence - Okudzeto tells women
12.03.2021 LISTEN

Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has voiced out his displeasure regarding the continuous physical abuse some women are subjected to by their boyfriends.

According to Mr Okudzeto, women must be encouraged to resist and report domestic violence without the slightest delay. He argued that “real men use their strength to protect their partners [and] not harm them.”

His statement comes off the back of the death of a woman in the Volta Region who was beaten to death by her abusive lover- a supposed Deputy Director of the Youth Employment Agency.

Speaking in response to the demise of the young lady identified as Elizabeth Yesutor, Okudzeto Ablakwa urged ladies to stand up and save their lives by reporting abusive men.

“There can be absolutely no justification to lift a hand against a spouse. Real men use their strength to protect their partners not harm them.

“We must strongly encourage ladies to boldly resist and report domestic violence without the slightest delay. Better to leave and live than to stay and succumb.”

Battered by the news, Mr Ablakwa lashed out curses at perpetrators of such inhumane actions saying: “May the perpetrators never find peace and when they are finally found out, may their earthly punishment serve as sufficient deterrence.”

Horrifying and heart-wrenching times not just for our daughters, sisters and wives; we must all be outraged that physical and emotional violence against women continues to this day.

There can be absolutely no justification to lift a hand against a spouse. Real men use their strength to protect their partners not harm them.

We must strongly encourage ladies to boldly resist and report domestic violence without the slightest delay. Better to leave and live than to stay and succumb.

Our deep sympathies and prayers are with all bereaved families including the many victims who escape the lenses of the media.

May the perpetrators never find peace and when they are finally found out, may their earthly punishment serve as sufficient deterrence.
