JUN 4, 2018 LISTEN

National Science & Maths Quiz is here again. The fierce competition which subtly stokes regionalism and give us a fair appraisal of how resourced we are in Science theoretically.

Even if its a 'chew and pour' theatrics which doesn't translate into catching up with the fast pace of global technological inventions, it clearly reveals our grasp of...

More than two decades ago, that the competition started, the sterling consistent performance of Kumasi schools, has dislodged the hype around 'colonial' schools and schemes to impose their 'manufactured' might on us. Be it

* the impressive intermittent form of Prempeh College in winning the trophy 4 times..

* the Owass Akatakyie boys being twice champions and the fact that, they have been to the finals in a record 7 times..

* Kumasi Anglican once being in the finals
* Kumasi High School placing 4th consecutive times..recently

The bitter rivalry between Prempeh College and Owass as in who owns bragging rights has been the drive in having Team Kumasi always proudly represented.

Last year surprised early elimination of Owass in the first round and their rival being the defending champion, is only going to cause an aggressive bounce back by the former in this year's competition. But we must also watch out for a formidable Kuhis team this time.

This coming Wednesday is the start of ringing the exciting and sometimes sorrowful bell of the Quiz's mistress. The jittery sound which is capable of silencing the entire population of a second cycle institution and its affiliated alma matters..or the opposite.

The nyansapo spirit at Tech trickles down and that makes Kumasi the natural 'home' of anything Science.
