Luckie Lawson Produces Own Movie

GHANAIAN ACTRESS Luckie Lawson, who has carved a niche for herself in the Ghanaian movie industry, has announced her decision to produce her own movie.

The actress's Seventh Act production company is currently shooting her first ever movie, Forbidden, with Nollywood stars Ramsay Nouah and Chika Ike cast in major characters.

The movie is being directed by Jimmy Bangura, a Sierra Leonean. His claim to fame, apart from directing, is his appearance in Eddie Murphy's Coming To America. Forbidden is expected to break barriers and make a fortune on the worldwide market.

The movie centres on women, as it seeks to project them in high esteem. It tells the story of a married woman called Keller played by Luckie herself. Forbidden follows Keller's struggle to be successful despite being married to an affluent man.

Her husband Dave, played by Ramsay, is a well-to-do man who owns a construction company but does not support his family. Movie enthusiasts will have to wait to find out how far she gets when the movie is finally released.

Some new faces in this movie include young diva, Martha Ankomah and Stacy of TV3's Music Music fame.

A press soiree was held at the plush Royal Richester Hotel in East Legon last Friday. Ramsey, Chika, Jimmy and Luckie were on hand to talk about their roles in the movie and the production.

Luckie revealed that it has always been her dream to act as well as produce. Hence after getting the opportunity to acquaint herself with the movie industry via acting, she has now decided to give her production dream a go.

According to Luckie, she seeks to make a difference with her movie. “I want whoever sees the movie to say this is a different Ghanaian movie. That is what I want to achieve”, she said. Luckie also expressed her desire for the movie to be recognized internationally as an African movie.

Chika told BEATWAVES in an interview that she is playing Aisha; one of the more naughty roles in the movie and described it as quite different from her previous roles. Chika added that while this movie would be her maiden Ghanaian movie, this is her third visit to Ghana.
