'Osofo Dadzie' Bea Kissi dies in Accra
Death has laid its icy hands on yet another theatre performer in the person of Bea Kissi of Osofo Dadzie fame last Friday 7 February at the Surgical/Medical Emergency Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where she had been admitted for nine days following a jaundice problem.
According to Hickson Ofori Kissi, father of the deceased, the medical personnel did all they could but Bea Kissi did not survive. She was 52 and left behind five children, the eldest is 35 years and the youngest 22.
All the people present were besides themselves with grief when Showbiz visited the Dansoman home in Accra of the late actress, who is best remembered for her natural and excellent acting in the days of Osofo Dadzie, the then popular drama series on television.
When the series went off air Bea Kissi went to the United States of America and came back after some years to do some trading. She also ran a Communication Centre and Internet cafe at her residence until her death.
Colleague actress and good friend of Bea Kissi, Mercy Ofei who was among those who had come to give the family their condolences, told Showbiz that Bea Kissi was still into showbusiness after the Osofo Dadzie series ended. “She was involved in the first series of Cantata before quitting to concentrate on her band.”
Mercy Ofei said Bea Kissi had brought down from the States a set of musical instruments and formed the Big Mouth Band. The band, according to Mercy, has been very active at various events throughout the country. Mr Ofori Kissi said the family is considering the end of March to give Bea a fitting burial.
Two of Bea’s children, Nana Kojo and Bertha who spoke to Showbiz said it is very difficult for them to accept that their mum is no more but are consoled by the number of people who have been calling to express their condolences. Said Bertha, “I was with my mum on that day but I did not know she was going to die, I just left her for five minutes and that was it. It is very painful, I don’t know what to say.”
