Ms Ghana, USA pledges support for needy children in Ghana

Accra, July 6, GNA -- Krystle Simpson, Ms Ghana, USA on Monday pledged to help the less privileged children by soliciting donations to sponsor their education in Ghana.

In addition, she would educate the public on HIV/ADIS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), empower women to venture into politics and aspire for high positions of trust.

Ms Simpson 21, and a medical student of Montgomery College in Maryland made the pledge at a press briefing in Accra on arrival in Ghana.

She won the pageant this year and would represent the Ghanaian community in the Miss Africa pageant competition in the USA.

While in Ghana, Ms Simpson in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ministry of Tourism would tour four regions in the country to identify schools and communities that would benefit from her philanthropic gesture.

They are Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and Western Regions.

Ms Simpson said she would sponsor the education of needy children because education was key to achieving a successful life, adopt some deprived schools in the country and design strategies to encourage reading and writing in specific areas of interest among children.

On women empowerment, she would organise workshops and forums for them to energise them to take up political appointments and other sectors dominated by men.

Ms Simpson called on the media to give more attention to women issues by highlighting their problems, achievements and providing solutions to their predicament.

She called on young women not to indulge in prostitution but treat themselves with dignity and respect.

Ms Simpson appealed to individuals and organisations especially those involved in women activities and empowerment to assist women gain the status they deserved in society.

She announced the launching of an NGO, “Gold Star”, a Christian charity organization on education, support for children and the underprivileged in Ghana soon.
