When I first heard the concept of having a fashion patrol on Ghanaian TV I just asked myself, how would it turn out? Well, after chancing on this weekend's episode of the fashion police segment of 'Fashion & Style', a new lifestyle magazine programme on TV3 my reaction was not far from what I anticipated, yuck!
I don't even want to talk about the hosts so I will go straight to the content. Most fashion patrols I know of go through town to bring to bear the fashion dos and don'ts but apparently when it's in Ghana, it's a whole new ball game. The episode I saw was about some 'akata' gangster wannabe walking on the streets of Osu and talking on his phone. Suddenly, some taxi with the inscription 'fashion police' pulled over and some guys in uniforms bearing the same inscription read out his arrest warrant. As if what I saw wasn't false enough, the 'akata' guy had to prove his gangster by cussing. This was not only inappropriate for daytime TV but also completely pointless. Well, to cut a long story short, he was arrested, put into the 'fashion police' car and taken away.
Wait, that wasn't all! The fashion offender was taking to the 'fashion court' where judges Kofi Kapito (social commentator of sorts) and Seyi Jones (a fashion designer of sorts) listened to his case and passed their judgement. They scrutinized they way the guy was dressed and convicted him for looking like a criminal. Ezra Ofori, the host of the show then presented the same guy in casual attire and the judges gave reasons why the latter dressing was a better option. So what's my conclusion? That segment of the show is one of the biggest waste of airtime in recent times.

I did not see the fashion police show on TV but the fact that the program format does not conform to a fashion police show you have seen before does not warrant your harsh criticism. It is original and it's a start so definitely would need some polishing . You are right in lambasting it for the use of the swear word, but then again, in Ghana that has a completely different meaning.
