Love him or hate him, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) is damn good at whatever he does; even when he is irritating the gees out of you. The larger than life presenter joined the Mentor train this season together with the lovely Dentaa as hosts for the fourth edition of the singing competition. KOD has performed quite creditably over the weeks although sometimes his ego, and perhaps overabundant knowledge in music, gets the better of him. Sometimes, he feels he is a judge on the show and he passes comments that he has no business passing. He once, directed to band to play in a particular key; hint, hint, you are only a host on the show!
This Sunday, he committed his worst blunder yet when he butted in on Angel's performance while she was still singing on stage. Angel had changed her key in the bridge to her song, 'I will always love you' to give it a 'ragga' twist. But KOD thought she had finished performing so he came on stage speaking into his microphone and asking the audience to applaud. Noticing his blunder, KOD went back stage and later emerged when the performance was truly over. As if that was not enough, he goofed again when summing up the scores from the judges on Angel's performance. Apparently 4+4+5 is equal to 14 in KOD's maths class. Maybe he was dazed by his earlier goof and needed time to think clearly. LOL!
Meanwhile, the reggae themed show went down pretty well as most of the contestants performed much better on the night. And now, it seems that there is some clear emergence of frontrunners in the competition; Mike and Angel stick out readily for me at the moment. On the other hand, Pollux was eliminated from the show after a rather abysmal performance. I think that so far, the viewers have been voting correctly and that sadly has been the biggest highlight of this season so far.
