Popular Ghanaian comedian Amponsah Obarima Akuoko, known in showbiz circles as OB Amponsah, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be the biggest beneficiary if President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) succeed in government.
He believes that after years of declining confidence in leadership, a successful Mahama-led administration will restore public faith in governance and indirectly boost the NPP’s electoral chances in the future.
In a social media post on Monday, June 16, OB Amponsah said many Ghanaians, especially NPP supporters, have grown weary of government due to poor leadership over the past 12 years.
“The NDC government looks a lot attractive now, but if anybody should be happy for JM’s success during his term of office, it should be the NPP,” he wrote.
“His success in governance may be a restoration of faith in government and one of the reasons party members will come out to vote for Kennedy Agyapong after the overwhelming voter apathy the NPP suffered in 2024.”
He also argued that President Mahama has a dual responsibility of fixing the damage caused during both his own previous administration (2013–2017) and that of former President Akufo-Addo (2017–2025).
“President John Mahama is entrusted with the arduous task of restoring the confidence and trust in democracy and leadership that seemed to have dwindled the past 12 years; during his first term and after the 8 years of Pharaoh,” he stated.
He noted that Mahama’s humility and willingness to listen to Ghanaians sharply contrast with what he described as the arrogance displayed during the previous administration.
