American rapper Silento, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his cousin, Frederick Rooks III, in 2021.

Silento pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges including voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and firearm possession. The court acknowledged his mental health struggles, but held him accountable for the crime.

Silento shot his 34-year-old cousin, Frederick Rooks III, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds on January 21, 2021. An investigation revealed that the deceased was last seen with Silento in a white BMW SUV, which was captured fleeing the scene on a neighbor's security footage minutes after the gunfire.

Silento's publicist revealed that the rapper had been battling serious mental health issues, including attempted suicide in 2020. In 2019, Silento spoke about his mental health struggles in an interview, saying, "I've been fighting demons my whole life. I don't know if these demons will ever go away."

Prior to the shooting, Silento was charged with two counts of assault in August 2020 for allegedly attacking two people with a hatchet.

The court sentenced Silento to 30 years in prison, with credit for time served since February 2021, and an additional 10 years of probation.
