Renowned radio and TV presenter Mercury Quaye of Multimedia Group Limited’s Hitz FM and Joy Prime has voiced his disappointment over what he describes as a persistent neglect of DJs in Ghana’s music industry.
His comments follow the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), where, notably, none of the winning artists acknowledged DJs in their acceptance speeches.
Quaye, a vocal advocate for the recognition of behind-the-scenes contributors, expressed surprise at the omission, especially given the critical role DJs play in amplifying and promoting music.
He said it was unfortunate that some artists fail to publicly credit the DJs who help bring their work to the public, both on-air and in venues.
In an industry where music is a business and success is often collaborative, Quaye urged Ghanaian musicians to be more intentional in appreciating the contributions of DJs to their careers.
The lack of recognition, he suggested, reflects a broader issue in how the music industry values those working behind the scenes.
Mercury Quaye’s remarks have reignited calls for artists to show greater respect and gratitude toward all stakeholders—including DJs—who contribute to their success.
