Ghanaian singer J. Derobie says he still has big dreams of reaching the top of his music career, including winning a Grammy.

The Poverty hitmaker said despite the challenges that come with fame, he remains focused on his musical journey and believes he is on the right path.

“I always imagined myself heading to the top, and I still have that dream. I believe I will make it to the top and win a Grammy one day. No matter what happens, I know I am on the right path. So I don’t worry too much. My focus is just to put out the work—so many songs,” he said.

However, he admitted that his biggest regret in life is becoming famous and being recognized everywhere he goes.

According to him, after rising to fame, he could no longer visit his favorite waakye joints freely, something he found very frustrating.

Speaking on Accra-based Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz on Monday, February 17, the award-winning singer said he has now learned to deal with such concerns.

“Fame,” he said in response to a question about what he regrets most since venturing into music.

“Sometimes people don’t understand how it works. It gets tiring. You don’t have your freedom. Everywhere you go, people recognize you. You can’t even go and buy waakye in peace.

“But now, I just don’t think too much about it. If you dwell on it too much, you’ll feel boxed in. And when that happens, you start feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I used to worry about it, but now I don’t anymore,” he said.
