Ghana Tourism Authority announces 2025 National Chocolate Week Celebration

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with COCOBOD and the Cocoa Processing Company, has announced the 2025 National Chocolate Week celebration under the theme “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana,” with a sub-theme, “Chocolate for All: Taste, Share, and Care.”

Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, the event will take place from February 3 to February 14, 2025, aiming to highlight the health benefits of chocolate consumption and promote Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The National Chocolate Day celebration was first introduced in 2005 to coincide with Valentine’s Day on February 14, encouraging the local consumption of Ghanaian chocolate and cocoa-based products. In 2021, COCOBOD and GTA expanded it into a week-long event, which has since become an annual tradition.

As one of the world’s leading producers of premium cocoa, Ghana takes pride in its chocolate industry as a symbol of national identity and economic strength. The event also honors the contributions of cocoa farmers, whose dedication has made Ghanaian chocolate globally recognized.

As part of this year’s celebrations, GTA’s regional offices will visit pediatric units in regional hospitals on February 14, sharing chocolate treats with young patients.

Other activities planned for the celebration include media engagements and public sensitization on the health benefits of chocolate from February 3 to February 14. On February 13, a "Melting Moment" will take place at the reception of the Ghana Tourism Authority’s Head Office, where visitors will be treated to warm chocolate drinks.

On February 14, a grand float and chocolate feast will be held through the principal streets of Accra, culminating in a stakeholder durbar at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. Additionally, an activation event at Kotoka International Airport will raise awareness about the health benefits of chocolate while distributing chocolate bars to arriving passengers.

Throughout Chocolate Week, hotels and restaurants across the country are encouraged to incorporate chocolate into their menus with special dishes and desserts. On Valentine’s Day, participating establishments are urged to offer complimentary chocolates to patrons as a gesture of love and appreciation.
