Ghanaian pastor and counselor Yaa Prempeh has said Marriage is not about suppressing one’s individuality but about compromising for a shared vision during a discussion on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh.

She argued that many couples marry based on emotions, but emotions fade over time. What sustains a marriage is purpose and vision.

“Compromise should not be based on gender, but on productivity, peace, and growth,” she stated.

If both partners are ambitious and career-driven, they should find a balance—whether through support systems like house help or shared responsibilities at home.

She also emphasized that compromise requires active listening.

Many couples fail to find common ground because they listen only to react, not to understand.

“When you don’t understand your partner’s needs, compromise becomes impossible,” she noted, adding that open communication helps partners navigate differences in background, values, and even daily habits—like food preferences and lifestyle choices.
