Ghanaian actor and broadcaster Mikki Osei-Berko has revealed that he may return to politics, expressing dissatisfaction with the current governance style in the country.
In an interview with Joy Prime, Mikki, who once served as an Assembly Member for the Ayidiki Electoral Area in Accra about 20 years ago, reacted affirmatively when asked if he would consider running for Parliament.
He stated, "Probably yes," emphasizing that many issues that have been neglected by lawmakers need attention by well-meaning leaders.
According to Mikki, the country's governance has become too reliant on taxes and excessive borrowing.
He added that leaders in Ghana lack creativity in generating sustainable revenue through investments.
"I feel that governance in this country has not been so creative, they only take taxes and borrow money. But I feel that there are opportunities that can bring the country money and sustain the citizenry through creativity and business-oriented governance," he explained.
Mikki also reflected on his time as an Assembly Member, recalling that he was divinely inspired to run as an independent candidate.
"I didn’t even think about it with anybody. I took the decision on the inspiration of God," he said.
Despite knowing he would not win, he successfully secured the position. However, he served only one term, leaving to pursue further education at the New York Film Academy.
He believes that gaining more knowledge will help him contribute better to Ghana's governance in the future.
Mikki, well-known for his entertaining roles such as Kokonsa on Radio Gold, Dada Boat, and Master Richard, continues to be a beloved figure in Ghana's entertainment industry.
