Ghanaian music icon Okyeame Kwame is embracing a new musical journey, adding the bamboo flute, or “atentenben”, to his skillset as he prepares for his golden years.

Known for his dynamic rap style, the artist recognizes that rap demands significant physical energy while preparing for a future where a more relaxed performance style might be key.

In a recent appearance on the “30 Questions” show with Quophi Okyeame, Okyeame Kwame revealed his new passion for the flute, sharing that he has been learning to play for about four months.

“Rap is tough on the bones,” he admitted. “Very soon, I will be old and weak, and I still want to do music.

“I want to be able to sit down, collect money from the Europeans, and play it to them.”

Okyeame Kwame envisions performing with a unique African twist, adding, “I’ll add a little drama, with women in traditional raffia and kente creating a certain persona.”
