Ghanaian gospel musician Mavis Asante has opened up about a key practice she believes has kept her 13-year marriage peaceful and strong.
Speaking with Kessben FM, Mavis explained that her decision not to touch her husband’s phone, even if it is ringing, is a personal principle she adopted for her peace of mind.
“One thing that has helped me in my marriage is that I never pick up my husband’s phone. Even if someone is calling, I won’t pick up.
“That is a principle I have had since, if not for anything, just to have my peace of mind,” she stated.
Mavis also emphasized her commitment to making her marriage work, inspired by her parents’ longstanding relationship.
"When I was going into the marriage, I kept it in mind that I wouldn't go through a divorce. I was fortunate to grow up with both of my parents and I saw how it benefitted me. I know people who grew up in broken homes and the struggles they went through,” she stated.
She added, "So when I saw that my parents maintained their marriage through the ups and downs. I was inspired. I removed the word divorce from my marriage. I don't want it anywhere around me.”
