He swept 5 awards at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards, including the artist of the year but Kwaw Kesse believes that it is not enough to reign only in Ghana; he wants to be crowned the king of African hip-hop. Watch Odiem by Kwaw Kese
He came onto the Ghanaian hip-hop scene a little over 5 years ago, appearing on two separate compilation albums featuring various artistes. However, his thumping hip-hop beats and the use of witty, carefree metaphors set him apart from the lot and he soon became a hit with many Ghanaian youths.
He followed his newly found fame in the hip-hop scene to release his debut album, ‘Na Ya Tal’ with run away success. His fans did not only fall in love with his music and lyrics but also his ‘crazy persona’ on stage and in his videos.
He soon carved a personality for himself as ‘Abodam’ (the madman) and anytime he appears on stage, he gets his audience in a frenzy, screaming out Abodam and knocking their heads with their fists. He became the phenomenon of the year 2007 hence his success at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards.
He says that he is on top of his game and he is going to take Ghanaian hip-hop or hip-life as it is popularly known, to the next level. He plans to take his music to Tanzania with his upcoming collaboration with Tanzanian hip-hop icon, Professor J. From there, he plans to take on South African, then the USA and the rest of the world.
As a peace ambassador ahead of the December general election, Kwaw Kese believes that hip-hop has a role to play in maintaining peace before, during and after the elections.
