The Director of Special Projects at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has stated that music has had a far greater impact on national life in Ghana compared to sports.

Speaking on Asaase Radio on Saturday, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, popularly known as Daddy Bosco, said "If you look at the impact of music on national life, it far surpasses, with all due respect, what sports does."

He emphasized the important role played by MUSIGA, which was established in 1975 and continues to advocate for musicians' rights and welfare.

“Musicians must acknowledge that the Musicians Union of Ghana, established in 1975 and still going strong, is without a doubt the most recognised association of musicians," Daddy Bosco said.

He cited other professional associations like the Ghana Medical Association and Ghana Bar Association, stressing that "No legitimate doctor in Ghana will say I’m a practicing medical practitioner and I’m not a member of the Ghana Medical Association. Same like the Ghana Bar Association."

Daddy Bosco urged all musicians to join MUSIGA if they want their profession to earn proper respect.

“If we want our profession to be accorded the respect it deserves so that in terms of sharing the national pie we get what is due to us, then they’ll realise that music is one tool they can leverage," he said.

The MUSIGA official pointed to the positive impact of Afrobeats music in changing international perceptions of Nigeria.

“If you look at the brand leverage Nigeria enjoyed just because of the new thing they have with Afrobeats, let me put it that way, the perception of Nigeria has changed drastically," he stated.

Next year marks MUSIGA's 50th anniversary, and Daddy Bosco called on musicians to support the union as it continues advancing Ghana's creative industry.
