Renowned Ghanaian Highlife singer Akwaboah Jnr. has revealed that while he is open to performing at political rallies, he would avoid composing songs directly in support of any political party.

In an interview with Accra-based Okay FM on Thursday, September 12, the 'My Darling' hitmaker said performing at rallies is different from crafting songs to endorse a particular party.

He reiterated his preference to create music that unites Ghanaians rather than divides along party lines.

"If you call me to perform, I would, but if it is to compose a song, no I can't. I would rather compose for Ghana as a whole," Akwaboah Jnr. told Abeiku Santana.

He explained that composing a song tied to a single party's campaign could backfire and negatively impact his career if that party loses elections.

"If I do a song for Ghana and the country progresses, it would benefit all of us but if I compose a song for a single political party and it doesn't work out, it would affect me negatively," the singer added.

Akwaboah Jnr’s stance demonstrates his aim to remain politically neutral as an artist and avoid risks associated with composing partisan campaign songs in Ghana's “toxic” political landscape.
