'Let men who can afford more wives be; if the first wife doesn't accept she should just leave' — MC Yeboah

MC Yaa Yeboah has defended the practice of polygamy, arguing that men should be free to marry multiple wives if they can afford it, without societal judgement.

She criticised the bias against average men with more than one wife and the stigmatisation of second wives.

Speaking on United Showbiz, Yaa Yeboah highlighted the double standards in society, stating that wealthy men with multiple wives are often celebrated, while average men and the women who become their second wives face unfair criticism.

“If a man says he wants to marry ten, fifteen, or even twenty wives and can afford it, let them be. Society doesn't have a problem with wealthy men who have more than one wife, but when a woman is a second wife to an average person, they make her feel less of herself," she said.

She also challenged the notion that women "snatch" another’s husband, arguing that such narratives are flawed and baseless.

“They criticise the other woman for clinging to someone’s husband and not finding her own. If a married man doesn’t date the other woman, how will he be able to make his choice of a second wife?

“I don’t believe the assertion that another woman can snatch someone’s husband,” she boldly stated.

Yaa Yeboah encouraged women to make their own choices without feeling pressured by societal norms.

“If a woman wants to be a second wife, let her be. As long as she understands the advantages and disadvantages of being a second wife, let her be.

“And to the first wives, if your husband wants to bring a second wife and you don't want it or the stress that comes with it, leave the marriage. Life can be so simple,” she asserted.

She also took aim at the rise of social media marriage counsellors, suggesting that many of them are not qualified to give advice due to their own marital struggles.

“There are a lot of marriage counsellors on social media, but I don’t believe in those things. Many claim they are marriage counsellors, but their married life is a mess,” Yaa Yeboah noted.
