Ghanaian musician and activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has revealed that he carries a gun at all times, even during TV appearances, to ensure his personal safety.
In an interview on Hitz FM on August 12, 2024, A Plus discussed his approach to security, making reference to the tragic fate of music mogul Fennec Okyere as a cautionary tale.
A Plus emphasized that while many people fall asleep with their phones in hand, he opts to keep a gun close by.
"I fall asleep with my gun in my hand. Even sometimes, when I'm sitting on UTV, I have a gun in my pants. I'm just living and I don't want to die like Fennec," he stated.
He recounted the circumstances surrounding Fennec Okyere's murder in 2014 when unknown assailants broke into his home and killed him while he was defenseless.
A Plus stressed that he refuses to live in such a vulnerable position. "Fennec had to wait for them to break in and murder him. Me, I will not go like that," he expressed.
Reflecting on Fennec's tragic death, A Plus made it clear that he is determined to protect himself at all costs, even if it means taking drastic measures before being overpowered.
"The kind of things I'll do before I die, when you put me on my bed, you’ll see me smiling because I would have shot at least one person before I died," he said.
Fennec Okyere, the former manager of rapper Kwaw Kese, was brutally murdered at his Accra residence on March 13, 2014.
Despite years of investigation, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved.
