Ghanaian musician-turned-politician, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has disclosed that he always sleeps with a gun in his hand occasioned by a deep-seated fear of being killed like the late Fennec Okyere was murdered.
The revelation was made during an interview on Hitz FM, where A Plus also admitted to carrying a gun even during his appearances on UTV.
“When you fall asleep, you will probably do so with your phone in your hand. I fall asleep with my gun in my hand,” A Plus shared. “Even sometimes, I’m sitting on UTV, I have a gun in my pants. I’m just living and I don’t want to die like Fennec.”
The musician’s fears stem from the tragic death of Fennec Okyere, the late manager of Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese, who was murdered in his home in 2014. Okyere’s death remains a painful memory for many in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, and A Plus’s remarks highlight the ongoing concern about personal safety among public figures in the country.
Recalling Fennec's death, A Plus lamented, “Fennec was in his room sleeping, and then people came, and he had to wait for them to come and murder him. Bro, you can’t die like that. He didn’t have anything, no form of protection, so he just had to wait for them to break in and murder him.”
A Plus, who is known for his outspoken views on social and political issues, emphasized that he refuses to be a passive victim in a similar situation. “I still have the pictures on my phone. And when I look at Fennec's pictures, I say to myself, 'Me, I will not go like that'. The kind of things I’ll do before I die, when you put me on my bed, you see me smiling because I would have shot at least one person before I died,” he stated.
