Renowned actress Portia Asare Boateng, says the Kumawood movie industry in is going through challenging times due to lack of support and internal sabotage by colleagues.
In an interview with Ahodwo TV, Portia Asare Boateng opened up about the struggles within the local movie industry and attributed it to "hatred" and the use of underhand tactics by colleagues against each other.
"People are asking why Kumawood is struggling. It's because of hatred! Some use spiritual means to undermine their colleagues instead of supporting one another," stated the actress.
According to Portia Asare Boateng, those she considered trusted friends and often dined with were among the people allegedly trying to harm her career through witchcraft.
"I was shocked. People I trusted and used to dine with were among those who tried to harm me using witchcraft. If you destroy me, you can’t replace me. Each person’s work is unique, so why resort to such measures?" she lamented.
This alleged backstabbing attitude has negatively impacted the growth of the local movie sector which used to be among the thriving ones on the continent in its prime, producing acclaimed actors like Agya Koo, Akrobeto, Kwaku Manu, Lil Win, Nana Ama McBrown and others.
