Nigerian afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has surprised fans by announcing that he will be releasing his eighth studio album at midnight.
In a brief post on his official X account, Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, simply stated "Album dropping 12am".
This sent fans into a frenzy as they weren't expecting new music from the artist so soon after the hugely successful release of his previous album "I Told Them I'm A Genius" in August 2023.
That album saw Burna Boy cement his status as one of the biggest musicians in the world, becoming the first African artist to headline London's 60,000-capacity London Stadium.
Led by hit singles like "Sittin' On Top Of The World" and "Cheat On Me", the album was acclaimed for its fusion of afrobeats, dancehall, and hip-hop influences.
Burna Boy has given fans very little information about his upcoming untitled eighth studio album, keeping details tightly under wraps in typical surprise drop fashion.
However, if it's anything like his previous work, fans can expect an eclectic mix of sounds, powerful lyrics addressing social and political issues, and guest features from high profile artists.
With Burna Boy's reputation for creating genre-blending, critically acclaimed albums, excitement is high for what promises to be another groundbreaking project from one of Africa's most influential musical exports.
