Agya Koo walks off stage at funeral performance amid Mahama chants

Renowned Ghanaian actor Agya Koo abruptly ended his performance at a funeral after an attendee chanted in support of former President John Mahama.

The incident, which quickly went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter) after being shared by EDHUB, has sparked conversations about political tolerance and unity in Ghana.

In a dramatic turn of events, Agya Koo, who was performing with a live band, stopped singing to address the disruptive attendee.

He explained to the crowd that his band included members of both major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

"We are all Ghanaians, and we are all tolerant. We have members of the NDC in our band, but we are all working together," he stated, emphasizing the importance of unity and respect despite political differences.

He added, "This lady used to be a teacher in the Central Region, but now she is an organizer in the NPP. The drummers you see here are also members of the NDC, but we are all doing one work and on the same team because we are all tolerant and are all Ghanaians."

Agya Koo then questioned the necessity of the political chant, asking, “Why all the noise and chants? Would elections be held today? Are we voting today?" His remarks highlighted the inappropriate nature of the disruption during what was meant to be a respectful and unifying event.

Expressing his disappointment, Agya Koo said, "I was surprised and disappointed by the chant, we were there to perform and unite, not to campaign." Following his statements, he ended his performance and walked off the stage, feeling disrespected by the incident.

The attendee who had shouted in support of John Mahama then challenged Agya Koo, insisting that the actor should acknowledge the inappropriateness of his own remarks about Mahama and the upcoming December elections.
