Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy Earn Less Than GHC10,000 in Royalties - Keche

Top Ghanaian musicians, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy, receive less than GHC10,000 in royalties, according to a recent revelation by the music duo Keche.

The duo in a recent interview with Shobiztv, shared on Instagram, claimed that even top musicians like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Shatta Wale have not received up to 10,000 Ghana Cedis in royalties.

In a candid conversation, they stated, "No musician can claim to have received GHC20,000 as royalties. So, we do not know what is happening. People attend the meetings, and our managers also attend, but nothing changes after the discussions. Why should we leave our jobs, which provide for us, to attend a meeting that leads nowhere? Have you met any artists who have said they earned GHC10,000 as royalties? Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy have never been paid GHC10,000 as royalties, and it's very disappointing. I get emotional every time I talk about this."

The frustration was palpable as Keche continued, expressing disillusionment with the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA). "I don't understand what MUSIGA and GHAMRO are doing. For many years, Keche, despite our hit songs, has never received GHC500.00, so why should I attend their meetings?" they added.

These revelations highlight a significant issue within the Ghanaian music industry, where artists feel underappreciated and inadequately compensated for their work.

Despite their popularity and hit songs, Keche's statement underscores a broader concern about transparency and fairness in royalty distribution.
