Nigerian music sensation, Timaya, has bravely shared details about his challenging battle with drug addiction, revealing the dangerous spiral that nearly ruined his life and career.

In an interview with The Beat FM, the Afro-dancehall artist shed light on the profound impact of his journey, serving as both a cautionary tale and an inspiring testament to resilience.

Timaya, whose real name is Inetimi Timaya Odon, opened up about the dark days when drug addiction posed a threat to his mental and physical health.

The singer disclosed that the allure of substance abuse temporarily clouded his judgment, leading him down a perilous path.

During the interview, the "Bum Bum" crooner highlighted a pivotal moment when he recognized the destructive habits and the toll they were taking on his life and career.

Timaya emphasized the importance of self-awareness in overcoming addiction, acknowledging that it required a profound commitment to change.

Sharing a specific incident that prompted introspection, Timaya recounted a moment during the COVID-19 lockdown when he questioned the seemingly boundless happiness of some individuals around him.

It was then that he discovered they were using a popular recreational drug called molly. Intrigued, Timaya decided to try it himself, resulting in a blissful but short-lived experience.

“Everybody was home (during COVID) and there are those young guys in my house who are always so happy. I was like ‘Bro, how are you guys happier than me? I am the boss, I got money. What are you guys on?’ And they told me that they got molly (a popular recreational drug).

“When I took it, I did not understand myself. I was so happy that I dashed all the money in my pocket,” Timaya confessed during the interview.

He went on to explain how dependence on substances to find happiness can replace natural joy, leading individuals down a dangerous path of constantly seeking external stimuli to feel content.

Timaya expressed gratitude for the support he received from loved ones during his journey to sobriety, highlighting the importance of a robust support system in dealing with such addiction.
