Ghanaian entertainment journalist Olele Salvador has criticised the organisers of the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) for mistakenly labelling Ghanaian musician King Promise as Nigerian.

In a tweet on Monday, Salvador questioned "since when did King Promise become Nigerian?" He slammed AFRIMMA for failing to exercise due diligence in identifying the artist's nationality.

According to him, AFRIMMA opened graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to create promotional material for King Promise's win, but did not take the time to verify his correct nationality before publishing the content on their Instagram page.

Salvador added, "Nobody could draw y’all attention before upload? & it’s still there?? An ‘African’ music award scheme?”

King Promise was named 'Best Male West Africa' at the 2023 AFRIMMA ceremony held in Dallas, Texas on Sunday.

The Ghanaian chart-topping artist won for his hit song "Terminator," beating out nominees from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Cameroon.

However, the award organisers are now under fire for mistakenly labelling the 'CCTV' singer as Nigerian in their promotional post, rather than acknowledging his true nationality as Ghanaian.
