Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Divine Ikubor, known widely as Rema, has subtly accepted a love proposal from American actress and singer Selena Gomez.
The globally renowned singer-cum-thespian, following their monumental ‘Calm Down’ collaboration, had expressed her love and admiration for the 23-year-old crooner.
She reportedly promised to "take very good care" of Rema, a statement which has since gone viral and featured on numerous media reports.
Subsequently, while accepting Best Afrobeats Song award at the 2023 MTV VMAs for their ‘Calm Down’ hit track at the event held in New Jersey on Tuesday, September 12, Rema also reiterated the love.
“Big shout-out to Selena Gomez, I wanna say I love you from the bottom of my heart,” he said amid cheers.
The two have once again made history with their collaboration by becoming the first to win the VMAs the Best Afrobeats award.
The 23-year-old afrobeats star accepted the moon person trophy on stage and thanked his fans, management team, and Afrobeats pioneers including Fela Kuti, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Don Jazzy for paving the way.
