Ghanaian musician King Promise defied adversity after he emerged victorious at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) after facing setbacks in previous editions.

Despite being advised to boycott the event following past disappointments, the determined artist chose to stay true to his fans and continue participating in the music awards.

During an interview on TV3, monitored by ModernGhana News, King Promise revealed that he received counsel to withdraw from the VGMA, but he disregarded the advice, considering the support he received from his dedicated fanbase and music lovers who appreciate his craft.

"Even with the VGMAs, there were times where I had advice from people who were like 'cancel it, don't go again.' People say a lot of stuff, it's up to you to make what you think of it," he expressed.

Acknowledging that his fans were not to blame for his past award snubs, King Promise affirmed their unwavering support.

He emphasized that despite not clinching awards, his music consistently resonates with listeners, fueling his motivation to keep creating.

"I always went and still performed, even when I didn't win. I go the next year to perform. It's about the fans for me," King Promise affirmed.

Undeterred by setbacks, the resilient artist promised to continue entertaining his fans with his music.

He emphasized that his passion for creating music surpasses the pursuit of awards, stating, "Awards or not, I was born to do this. I make this music from a special place, and it's not because of awards. When we get an award, we drop bangers. When we don't get one, we still drop bangers. We just keep going."

Despite the awards seemingly eluding him in recent years, King Promise's perseverance and commitment to his craft paid off at the 24th edition of the VGMA.

On Saturday, May 6, 2023 he claimed two prestigious awards, winning the Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year and prevailing over Black Sheriff to secure the Album of the Year.
