Rocky Dawuni, a Ghanaian UK-based reggae-dancehall act, has advised Ghanaian youths not to rely solely on the government for employment.

Instead, he advised them to take advantage of available opportunities, such as the lands for agricultural purposes and acquire other skills in order to suffice themselves.

Even if the government can create jobs, the seasoned musician believes that it will never be able to employ every unemployed youth.

“The thing is that jobs are not necessarily the responsibility of the government. The government creates an enabling environment,” he stated.

“The act of entrepreneurship is lacking if people are constantly waiting for the government. Even if the government creates jobs, how many jobs can one entity create to take care of the teeming number of youths?” he quizzed.

In his opinion, the Grammy-nominated singer said it is unwise for youths to sit idle when there are many available opportunities to keep themselves busy.

He continued “all I am saying is that in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty. Everybody is crying out for jobs whiles we have land. We need the know-how, and we need to increase the ability of training and equip young people with new ideas about farming, farming as a business, and new types of plants.”
