The Ghanaian hip-hop sensation, Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, known in showbiz as Black Sherif, has lost his first international laurel, the BET Hip-Hop International Flow of the Year category.

Having been nominated last month, the young rapper became the third Ghanaian rapper to have been nominated for the category since its inception in 2019, after Sarkodie and Stormzy.

Blacko, unfortunately, also becomes the first artist from Ghana to lose the category.

Sensational rapper from France, Benjamin Epps, defeated prim competition from Central Cee (UK), Blxckie (South Africa), Haviah Mighty (Canada), Knucks (UK), Le Juiice (France), Nadia Nakai (Zimbabwe), Tasha & Tracie (Brazil), and Ghana’s Black Sheriff to claim the award.

Epps becomes the fourth winner and also the first Francophone rapper to have clinched the Best International Flow category at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2022.

Sarkodie won the maiden edition in 2019, beating Falz (Nigeria), Ghetts (UK), Kalash (France), Lil Simz (UK), Nasty C (South Africa) and Tory Lanez (Canada). He will be closely followed by his colleague, the countryman rapper, Stormzy, in 2020.

Stormzy’s win was also succeeded by British female rapper, Little Simz, who became the third and the only female rapper so far to have won the category in 2021.
