In the afternoon of Monday, September 19, Kumasi-based musician Derrick Osei Kuffour Prempeh, better known as Kofi Jamar, gave himself out to be trolled in a tweet defending slavery in Africa.

As the heat on his head increased, the musician apologized for his "childish" assumptions, as well as deleting the tweet.

In the tweet containing his apology, the musician said his great grandfather, a former monarch of the Asante Empire, Nana Agyemang Prempeh I, became a subject of the slavery he is now defending.

"I apologize for my tweet. My great grandfather, Prempeh the 1st was captured as a result of the colonial regime, I’ve been affected by what happened in many ways. All through The deed of slavery is wrong I can’t Deny the impact Blacks have had on the world today because of that,” he wrote.

He added in a similar tweet “thanks to well-wishers, my fans and those dearest to me, I have learnt the mistakes in my submission and plan on further educating myself to be better. My tweet was not meant to harm anyone and I do hope we all find strength in forgiveness to move forward in kindness. Thank you.”

Unlike other Africans, Kofi Jamar, in his earlier contentious tweet, said he prefers the slave trade and colonization to the independence and freedom Africans enjoy today.

According to the "Ekorso" crooner, if not for slavery, Africans wouldn't have benefited from things like music, which even gave rise to African giants like Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Lebron, and others.

“People will kill me for this, but our ancestors really knew what they were doing when they sold Most Africans into slavery, The is a great impact on the world as we see today. I swear we wouldn’t have had the likes of the Blues, RnB , Rock and Roll, Rap Music, Hiphop Music.

“Etc . Blacks have benefited and impacted the world a lot in so many ways due to that migration. Shhh we wouldn’t have had the likes of Jay z, Lebron, Michael Jackson , Kanye West , Virgil abloh and a whole lot you can mention,” his contentious tweets read.
