Born Derrick Oboubie Jr., known in showbiz as J. Derobie, an award-winning young Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist has officially resurfaced on the musical scene.

The 25-year-old singer, who has been out of the music scene since winning reggae-dancehall song of the year at the 2020 VGMAs with his "poverty," says he is back.

According to the emPawa Africa record signee, he had to finish up his studies and other activities to be able to remain fully focused on the music industry.

In an exclusive interview on the Cape Coast-based Kastle FM, monitored by Modernghana News, J. Derobie officially announced the release of his new single, titled "Ato me so."

“I didn’t leave the scene after winning the VGMA Reggae Dancehall Song of the year in 2020 but I was on low key for some time,” he said.

He noted, “I was engaged somewhere in doing one or two things that is some further studies and more recordings and others so that’s what kept me behind a bit.

“But now I’m back and I have brought Ato Me So besides there are more things in the pipeline that I’m about to unleash.”

J. Derobie is currently signed to emPawa Africa, a record label owned by Mr. Eazi, a Nigerian musician.
