Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan in his recently launched autobiography has revealed how he consulted the oracles in search of his friend Castro who drowned in Ada during a vacation spree in 2014.

Castro, born Theophilus Tagoe who was a celebrated musician reportedly drowned whiles trying to rescue a woman at the Ada River estuary during a boat cruise.

However, in his book titled ‘LeGyandary’ which throws light on his life, Asamoah Gyan revealed how he visited a shrine in search of Castro and one Janet Bandu, whom they had gone to Ada with.

In the book, he narrated how a gentleman from the town surfaced when he did not know what to do after he had exhausted all his search strategies.

According to Asamoah Gyan, the said gentleman recommended the oracles of Ada who he said specialized in finding individuals who go missing whiles swimming in the estuary.

“He said the oracle was very powerful and such matters can be easily handled by it. Though I wasn’t very superstitious, I felt obliged to go along since we were in a fix.

"What else could we do? I was a little scared of the ensuing encounter with a priest, so I declined to join them at the shrine. I had a little money on me, so I decided to return to the hotel and gather some money in case we had to make payments later on,” the book read.

He expressed in the book that he was in a dilemma, wondering whether consulting the oracle could help.

According to him, the priest requested a bottle of schnapps and an amount of Ghc100, which he paid but with reluctance.

He said he arrived in the Ada town later that day amidst cheers from the inhabitants who were awed and thrilled to see him since his career with the national team was at its peak.

Due to this, Asamoah Gyan indicated that he had to make up a good impression whiles he smiled at the cheering crowd.

He expressed that he was not enjoying the cheers of the crowd but had to fake smiles whiles he was going through a state of sorrow in his mind.

“The journey to the shrine was a blend of different emotions. On arrival, we were made to take off our shoes and offered seats. I wondered if the priest would recognize me. I chuckled to myself. Do the gods also watch football? At least I could steal a moment's joy in all this turmoil.

"The Adas speak a native language called Dangme. The priest spoke the language and since we didn’t comprehend, we had someone to interpret for us. He inquired if the lost person was of high refute,” he further narrated in the book.

Asamoah Gyan indicated that the priest’s question gave him some faith because his guess was right though wildly done.

“How could he guess wildly and still had it right? Unless of course, there was a supernatural presence telling things in the unknown. We answered in the affirmative and he gave us a wry smile,” he wrote.

The ‘Legyandary’ book details the story.

The widely anticipated book which centers around the career of the ex-footballer was launched on April 30, 2022, at the plush Kempinski hotels in Accra.
