In 1995 the lights shone on a Ghanaian pop star on the global music terrain will come to a blurry end in an unintentional yet unfortunate incident.

From newspapers at the time rating him as a notorious musician, this pop star, known almost globally will be moved from music charts and records and will be headed straight to death row.

Geman had his fame rising at a fast pace after he won the Ghana National Dance Competition in the late 80s and went on to capture the hearts of the world with catchy dance moves.

He looked so much like dead King of Pop Michael Jackson.

This saw him touring most parts of the world and eventually winning the world Michael Jackson look-alike competition.

Unfortunately in 1995, this glory will be washed down the drain after an unfortunate incident that took the life of a taxi driver.

As expected of an issue of great proximity to Ghanaians and Ghanaian music lovers and unfortunately the narrative took a twist with every Ghanaian having a different version of the story.

For close to two decades, the narrative has been that the former pop star turned man of God had gotten into an argument with a taxi driver of a change of now GHp 10.

According to some of these false claims Geman, then an arrogant pop star wanted the situation to be solved his way and shot the driver when he refused to succumb.

Eventually, Geman narrated the actual incident when he had gone on Okay FM on a tour of his new autobiography book, FROM FAME TO SHAME Geman took the opportunity to narrate the actual issue;

He stated that he had woken up one morning at his then Dome residence when he was told that he had a guest, he had gone to see the guest and that when he was notified that the guest had gone to his place in a taxi and the driver was waiting for his.

The taxi driver got so furious that they kept him waiting for long and wanted to charge highly bigger than the agreed initial amount.

Geman gave him GHp 30 out of the GHp40.

Several minutes later when he had settled to take breakfast, he saw the taxi return to his compound.

He stated the angry taxi had begun fetching sand on his compound in his quest to curse every member of the house because he felt cheated.

This did not sit well with Geman and led to a confrontation between him and the driver who at the point in time was overly upset.

The driver, who at the time had parked his taxi four houses away from Geman’s house begun moving away towards it whilst hurling curses at the sand he had fetched at the pop star’s residence.

Agitated, Geman stated that all he could think about was the fact hurling his pistol at the driver was going to deter the driver from what he had intended doing but the sight of the pistol had nothing to do with him as he kept hurling curses and threatening to wipe out all inhabitants of the house.

Not able to control his temper any longer, Geman fired a warning shot but the taxi driver REMAINED ADAMANT.

Eventually, tempers had calmed and the taxi driver had agreed to pour the sand back at where he fetched.

Geman recalled that ignorantly, he never knew there was a bullet cocked in the barrel of his pistol which was going to lead to the unfortunate incident.

Two blocks away from his apartment, as they headed back to have an amicable discussion, Geman admits that he had made a derogatory statement that angered the driver who in turn reached out to get physical with him.

In his attempt to shove the taxi driver off in self-defense, the gun went off hitting a little above the nose of the driver leading to his demise.

Geman admitted his offense and was charged with murder.

He was put on death row but served 13 years, 4 months, a situational irony he believes was a manifestation of God’s miracle.

Geman in towards the end of the 20th century was a musical icon who won many hearts with his sleek dance moves, amazing voice, and resemblance to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.

His songs Highlife G Major and Danzin’ Man were smashing hits.

Now a Man of God Geman, now G’love Gemann lives overseas with his family where he runs his church.

He is currently promoting his book, FROM FAME TO SHAME, which details his lifetime and occurrences which shaped him to be a better person in the Lord like he is today.
