Indie rap act IceWhiz says work hard and honestly to get there

As the world is fighting a pandemic and measuring the impact of COVID-19 on humans and our activities, TheAfricanDream.net is also contributing to this cause by interviewing artists to appreciate how the pandemic has affected their arts and lives.

So we dispatched our Ghana-based correspondent Oppong Clifford Benjamin to interview ICEWHIZ who is a Ghanaian hip-pop independent (indie) artist who, despite the challenges of COVID-19, has been making quality rap music.

IceWhiz known privately as Edward Hinson recently caught our eyes for trying to also catch the attention of the renowned and award-winning Ghanaian rapper M.anifest with his dazzling rap skills. IceWhiz invited himself to an online feature with M.anifest via a virtual collaboration on Twitter that caught our eyes here at TheAfricanDream.net recently.

The video shared on his official Twitter page — @IceWhizOfficial -- shows the young rapper dropping lines in an already existing video of Ma.nifest as the fluidly shows off his rap skills with a solid freestyle. “I hope M.anifest sees this…,” says IceWhiz to Oppong Clifford Benjamin.

The pandemic made us all find new ways of living and creating safely and musicians, just like most of us, had to adapt to sudden changes to continue doing their normal in these rather abnormal times.

Speaking to TheAfricanDream.net correspondent Oppong Clifford Benjamin on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on his craft, the Accra-Madina based indie rapper said “a few months after the pandemic outbreak, everything changed rather drastically, so I needed to adapt ways to maintain and breakthrough regardless of the disturbances. The situation afforded me the opportunity to make possible things I felt were impossible before this pandemic…“

There is this peculiarity about IceWhiz’s craft which he explains best as “the uniqueness in style and the message I put out. When you hear my music you relate with what I’m talking about and my lyrical abilities and song composition sets me apart from the rest.” Indeed his songs like ‘we no dey hear’ and ‘king of the street’ affirm the above claims about his art.

This year is already a great year for IceWhiz as he is working on his current EP and album. Both of which might drop before 2022, he revealed. The young rapper wants his fans and all hip-pop music lovers to expect greatness of themselves and be thankful for life by living each moment to the fullest as they keep doing mostly what drives them positively — “for me it’s all about my musical prowess and how I use it to make positive impacts,” IceWhiz says.

When Clifford asked IceWhiz to advise his colleagues and emerging musicians, the rapper said “everything big begins with small efforts therefore believe you can be the next big thing and work your @$$ off very hard and honestly too.“
