No One Is Immune To Disability – Stonebwoy
17.12.2018 LISTEN

Dancehall sensation Livingstone Etse Satekla known by the stage name Stonebwoy has reminded the public that the state of disability is not limited to the few they may spot on the streets but can be as close as your next door neighbour or your family member or even yourself.

He has thus urged the public to rethink how they see the disabled in society.

“Often when people think ‘disability’ their minds jump to people with physical disabilities such as those who use wheelchairs.

“But disability refers to physical, intellectual, psychiatric and even learning disabilities. So Disability is an inescapable human condition and at one point or another, almost every person is exposed to, and may experience temporal or permanent disability” he said in a post on Instagram.

The musician who once had a defect in his leg because of an accident in his childhood has remembered persons with disability this yuletide.

He has reached out to as many disabled persons in the country through an initiative by THE LIVINGSTONE FOUNDATION (@tlf_ghana ) and AFEE AFRICA.

He took to his Instagram page to share the news with fans.

“Often when people think ‘disability’ their minds jump to people with physical disabilities such as those who use wheelchairs.

“But disability refers to physical, intellectual, psychiatric and even learning disabilities So Disability is an inescapable human condition and at one point or another, almost every person is exposed to, and may experience temporal or permanent disability.

“For too long, people with disabilities in the world have not been able to fulfill their potential due to stigmatization, exclusion, ignorance and lack of practical support.

“Yesterday, I spent time with some persons with “physical” disabilities as a Christmas Empowerment Initiative put together by My foundation, THE LIVINGSTONE FOUNDATION (@tlf_ghana ) and AFEE AFRICA to spur attendees on that there’s no glass ceiling to pursuing their dreams.

“Owing to the fact that the progress of enforcing disability policies have been frustratingly slow, it has to be made clear that unless every one of our citizens can reach their full potential our nations never will – because I passionately believe persons with disabilities constitute part of the overall talent pool in the country and should also be treated fairly in accessing social, economic and development opportunities.

“Attendees were not only encouraged with words but also equipped with soap making and bead making skills amongst others…”
