The event will be broadcast on DStv in November.
The five nominees representing the African continent at the 14th annual MTV Europe Music Awards will be upbeat Nigerian R&B sensation D'Banj, Ugandan hip-hop/ragga crowd-pleaser Chameleone, Kenyan underground hip hop king Jua Cali, Ghanaian Dancehall king Samini and HHP – South Africa's hottest hip-hop MC.
The five artists will learn which of them has won the prestigious Best African Act Award at the glittering MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony, taking place at the OlympiaHalle Arena, Munich on Thursday November 1, 2007.
The ceremony will air live across Africa on MTV Base (DStv Channel 88) and MTV European (DStv Channel 85).
The Best African Act was initiated in 2005 to mark the arrival in sub-Saharan Africa of MTV's African music channel, MTV base.
The first ever award was won by Nigeria's 2-FACE Idibia, who received his award in Lisbon, Portugal in 2005, followed in 2006 by South Africa's Freshlyground, who received their award from MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo in Copenhagen, Denmark.
