Nollywood Is Better Than Hollywood – Omotola
Nigerian actress, singer, philanthropist and former model, Omotola Jalade-Ekiende says she believes the Nollywood film industry is better than Hollywood.
Her comments follow her recent invitation to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science, popularly known as the Oscars.
The actress, who has appeared in over 300 films since her debut in 1995, told JoyNews’ MzGee that her goal is to help correct some abnormalities in the Nigerian film industry so it rubs shoulders and collaborates with Hollywood.
“There are some standards when it comes to movie making; there are the worldwide standards or acceptable standards and so hopefully, I want to help push that so that this industry can stand the test of time, and that they (Hollywood) take us seriously so we can have the collaboration we so desperately need,” Omo Sexy said.
Omotola added that “I’m just about the collaborations. Because that’s the biggest movie industry in the world so you can’t do without them. But I want Hollywood to find our standard enough to do collaborations with us because I know we (Nollywood) are better than them.”
The actress, who spoke to JoyNews at 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in Nigeria, also shared what she makes of her Oscars' membership.
“I feel privileged and happy that in my lifetime, this is happening. We would have thought it will take forever for us to get to this point. As far back as 1995, getting to the point where we became
"Nollywood, the second largest movie industry in the world, to the level where we are now being recognised internationally on the Oscars, I think Nollywood is closer than we thought to become seriously recognised,” she said.
