Glo Laffta Fest: DKB, Basket Mouth, Others Thrill Fans

It was a night of humour and quality entertainment when telecommunication company Glo assembled some of Africa’s great comedians on stage for Glo Laffta Fest on Sunday.

The programme which was held at the Fantasy Dome in Accra brought together some of the finest comedians in Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda.

Jacinta, the only female comedian on the show had good reception from patrons of the show who could not help laughing their lungs out at her jokes.

Nigerian comedian Seyi Law also put up a spectacular performance at the programme. One of his jokes which got the audience in stitches was about women acting surprised at what they already know.

When Ugandan comedian, Salvador, mounted the stage, he talked about the difference between Ghana and Nigeria in the way one is received at the airport. He also made a joke about God fixing a volume-knob to women so that they can be lowered anytime they nag.

DKB tounched on embassies, the Ghana police and made allusions to his big head. He was really in his element as he served the audience great comedy.

Bovi was phenomenal! In one of his jokes he said he enjoyed jollof at a restaurant when he came to Ghana. He asked to see the chef only to realise that he was a Nigerian.

When Basket Mouth took his turn, his advice for everyone was that the jollof war between Ghana and Nigeria must stop, “while other countries are fighting over oil, we are fighting over food, jollof is jollof and food is food so let’s just stop.”

He also shared his experience about visiting a strip club in Manchester and asked if there was one he could visit in Ghana.

Ghanaian comedian Foster Romanus had a bad night.
Even though he started well by singing and giving some pretty good jokes, he suddenly hit below the belt by calling Nigerians armed robbers.

Most Nigerians who were appalled by his joke booed him off the stage. While they shouted 'away', Foster then exited the stage just minutes into his act.

Ghanaian Juliet Ibrahim from Ghana and Uche Jumbo from Nigeria were hosts of the event.

The Glo Laffta Fest is part of the telecommunications company's relaunch onto the Ghanaian market. It ushered in the Glo Mega Shows, a marathon mix of music and comedy which will run between August and October.

After the Laffta Fest, the Glo Mega Music show will follow on Saturday, August 25, at the Fantasy Dome.
